Our school is an independent learning collective that has a small group size, experienced guides and teachers, personalized learning plans, flexible learning environments and empowered learners. We love sharing documentation of our well-rounded, project-based, child-driven curriculum. We see learning as a worthwhile, intellectual and social adventure. Each year is unique depending on each cohort’s vibrance, energy and interests. We all learn new lessons along the way. We’re committed to contributing to the enriching learning experience of each child and family in our program. We look forward to our journeys ahead!
Project-based learning
Project-based learning gives our curriculum life. Offering children hands-on opportunities to apply their knowledge is effective for many reasons. Targeted projects necessitate teamwork, collaboration, and problem solving. Engagement tends to be very high when there's a clear goal and audience for presentation. Practical experiences are much more reflective of the real world than a traditional school institution. Students experience both success and failure on real terms, and their work is judged by the tangible outcome. Our students collaborate on projects instead of constantly competing for grades and arbitrary factors for attention.
Both our indoor and outdoor learning spaces are rich with engaging, high-quality resources. We welcome and enthusiastically invite families of ALL backgrounds and we persistently embrace an anti-racist, anti-bias curriculum and consciousness. Our scholarships and tuition rates are flexible and mindful of the dire need to enact reparations as we attempt to heal longstanding, national wounds.
The tree-filled outdoor playscape + local flowing rivers + garden oasis + the makerspace + atelier + science lab, the Montessori-inspired classroom, the book nook + lending library, the music room, the massive block play construction zone are all the perfect size and layout for active learners. This is where the magic happens!
